We’re excited to introduce Jade McSorley—an inspiring writer, model, and environmental advocate from London whose creative focus is sustainable fashion. With a background in the fashion industry, Jade brings a unique voice to the conversation around style, ethics, and the planet.
“Art is something which creates a conversation and I think, now more than ever, people need to communicate with one another to make the world a better place. And art can be created in such a number of ways it is good for the soul—to find that cathartic release, something that is a true, beautiful expression of you,” – Jade.
What’s your story, Jade?
I live in London but I’m originally from the North of England (with a strong accent to prove it!). I’ve been a model for over 10 years, which has given me the opportunity to travel across the globe and meet the most interesting people. That journey has also allowed me to explore and write alongside work—I currently write for Twenty6 Magazine as the Travel Editor, and I qualified as a yoga teacher in India last year.
My friends might describe me as half-organised with one foot on the ground, and half-scatty with my head sometimes in the clouds. My family and friends are my world—they’re all a bit bonkers in the nicest ways and keep me constantly entertained.
Why Sustainable Fashion Matters in Your Work
My writing and personal passions focus heavily on the environment and sustainable fashion—especially its intersection with the travel industry. When you explore untouched natural landscapes, you feel a deep desire to protect and preserve them. Through interviews and research, I’ve learned a lot about the efforts—and unfortunately, the shortcomings—of industries impacting our planet.
Sustainable fashion is a key area I explore. It’s an industry that constantly takes from nature, but it’s time it gives more back. I hope that through my writing, I can promote sustainability, highlight pioneering changemakers, and raise awareness of how our fashion choices impact the environment.
What’s your superpower?
I hope that my superpower is helping people feel at ease and bringing out the best in them. My other superpowers include flying and shooting lasers from my eyes—but that’s a secret, of course.
What are your proudest achievements so far?
Moving to London and pursuing modeling was a huge leap for me. I’ve never been the most confident person, but I’ve learned to be brave enough to chase what I want. That move taught me to go after my goals—even with the risk of failure.
Future Goals in Sustainable Fashion
Right now, I’m applying for a Master’s degree in Fashion Futures at Central Saint Martins, which focuses specifically on sustainable fashion. Writing the application has been a challenge, especially since I haven’t studied in a while, but getting accepted would be a huge personal achievement. It’s all about learning how to push the fashion industry toward a better, more sustainable direction.
Creative Inspiration and the Power of Nature
Nature inspires me more than anything—not only the nature of our planet, but also the nature of people. I love discovering the quirks and individuality in others. It’s what makes the world feel truly alive and colourful.
Discovering Purpose Through Sustainable Fashion
Sustainable fashion has been the thread tying together much of what I do creatively. It’s a lens through which I see both the challenges and the solutions needed in our world. Fashion can be empowering, expressive, and ethical—but we have to push it there.
