We’re thrilled to introduce you to Sabi, a wonderful yoga teacher who brings heart, strength, and wisdom to every class she leads. With a background in dance and a passion for mindful movement, Sabi is dedicated to helping students grow—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Her teaching style is supportive, encouraging, and rooted in the belief that yoga is for everyone, no matter their starting point.
Why and when did you decide to become a yoga teacher?
I came to yoga from a dance background and had been a dance teacher for a while. I was first drawn in for the physical benefits—gaining more strength and flexibility—but when I realized how much calm it brought into my life, I knew this was something I wanted to share.
Since I had been teaching movement for a long time, I knew I would love becoming a yoga teacher, so I went to India to complete my 200-hour teacher training in vinyasa and ashtanga yoga.
What do you enjoy most about being a yoga teacher?
I love that I’m able to encourage my students to explore not only what their bodies can do, but how they can be the best versions of themselves. Being a yoga teacher isn’t about showing people how to make perfect shapes with their bodies—it’s about guiding them toward feeling good both on and off the yoga mat.
Top Benefits of Yoga for Me
One of the main benefits for me has been how it has shaped my mindset. I’ve always been a positive person, but yoga constantly reminds me that happiness is our true nature and guides me back to that mindset. It has also brought a sense of calm into my life.
Living in a busy city like London can be stressful, and yoga reminds you to be present and live in the now—rather than the past or the future. I’ve also always had a big passion for self-development, and being a yoga teacher continues to teach me new things about myself. It reminds me to always be open to personal growth.
I’ve realized that all the benefits I’ve mentioned so far are mental, but there are plenty of physical benefits too! One of the main ones is the strength I’ve built through yoga. It helps you gain strength gracefully, and the feeling of movement becoming effortless over time is truly empowering.
Advice for New Students from a Yoga Teacher
Yoga is for everybody—the young, the old, the flexible, the inflexible. The most common excuse people give me is that they are not flexible enough to do yoga. But that’s exactly the reason to start!
If someone is dirty, we tell them to take a bath. If you’re inflexible, you should do yoga. It’s pretty much the same thing 🙂
What Changes Do You Notice in Students?
The obvious changes are increased flexibility and strength. But the more exciting ones are often internal. I see students in better moods, feeling less stressed, and showing more love toward themselves and their bodies. They simply seem happier.
As a yoga teacher, there’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing that transformation.
Why a Yoga Retreat Is a Powerful Experience
I’ve been on a yoga retreat myself, and it’s the perfect way to recharge and reset both the mind and body. Imagine giving yourself a full week of mindfully moving your body, eating delicious healthy food, and being surrounded by supportive, inspiring people.
You return home with a refreshed attitude and a clear sense of what’s truly important in life. As a yoga teacher, I can say from experience—retreats are game changers.
The Power of a Yoga Teacher’s Presence
Being a yoga teacher means more than guiding a class. It’s about helping others tap into their own strength, joy, and calm—on the mat and beyond. Sabi embodies that fully, and we can’t wait for you to experience her teaching on Vis Island this September.
